A Studienkolleg is an educational institution that prepares international students for higher education at German universities if their foreign school-leaving certificate is not directly recognized as a university entrance qualification (Hochschulzugangsberechtigung).

  • A school-leaving certificate that qualifies you for university studies in your home country.

  • German language proficiency of at least level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

  • A valid student visa for Germany.

  • Proof of sufficient financial resources (blocked account / Sperrkonto).

  • Valid health insurance for students in Germany.

Legal Basis in Saxony-Anhalt

The Studienkolleg Ordinance (Studienkollegverordnung – StudKVO) of July 15, 2022, serves as the legal basis for conducting the Studienkolleg. It governs the organization, procedures, and examinations within the Studienkolleg and establishes the entire legal framework for Studienkollegs and the so-called assessment test (Feststellungsprüfung).
