Studienkolleg

The WBS STUDIENKOLLEG is a self-financed institute. We do not receive public funding and therefore charge tuition fees.

No, the time at the WBS STUDIENKOLLEG is not part of the allowed semesters.

The WBS STUDIENKOLLEG offers:

  • Courses accredited by the state government
  • An official degree certificate accepted all over Germany
  • Final exam held directly at the school. You do not have to apply at a university for taking the exam.
  • High standards of teaching and modern equipment
  • Well trained and experienced teachers
  • Cooperation with the Otto-von-Guericke-University Magdeburg

Courses

If you want to study any courses in relation to medical science of biology you should take the M-course.

If you want to study engineering, mathematics or natural science (apart from biology) you should take the T-course

If you want to study business, trade, economy or social science you should take the W-course.

We will give advice and send you a list of disciplines connected to the respective courses.

Yes, the certificate is valid for applying at universities all over Germany.

The usual time it takes to complete the courses is two months or approximately 10 months.

The class load is 32 periods a week, with 45 minutes each class.

Tuition fee and other expenses

The fee is 5,960.00 Euros for all courses, including admission, classes, exam, and certificate.

No, there are no additional expenses for the final exam. If you must take the exam a second time or if you want to take the exam for another field of studies, there are additional expenses.

Please keep in mind that there is mandatory health insurance for students in Germany. Cost of living in Magdeburg is low but please don’t disregard expenses like housing, food and beverage, transportation, and leisure activities. Please also see the section Life in Germany.

Application

Please use our online application form or contact us directly. 

As we must verify your eligibility, we ask you to submit a copy of your passport, a copy of your degree of secondary education or university entrance degree with German language translation and proof of German language skills, if any (for admission there must be proof of German language skills on level B1 of the CEFR). We might need additional documents for certain countries.

Yes, the earlier you apply the more likely you can be admitted.

You don’t necessarily have to speak English to be admitted. But it can be advantageous to speak English on at least level B1 of the CEFR, as there are a lot of English language terms in each subject and as the subject English is taught in English.

Life in Germany

For the time you study at the WBS STUDIENKOLLEG you need to apply for a student visa.

Please do not apply for a tourist visa as it is not applicable for studying in Germany and cannot be changed into a student visa in Germany.

If you come from China or Vietnam, you must also contact the Akademische Prüfstelle (APS) at the German embassy in Hanoi or Beijing Peking. 

The APS is a cooperation of the the German Embassy’s cultural department and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). The APS will check your educational history and your documents and certificates and check their authenticity. You will receive an APS certificate if the result is positive.

Our local cooperation partners can assist you during the process.

You must open a frozen bank account at a German bank and transfer the entire cost of living for the time you will study in advance. Then you must apply for a student visa. You should also care for housing in Magdeburg as well as health insurance early on. We will give you advice on all these topics.

For your time at the WBS STUDIENKOLLEG you need – as required by law – at least EUR 861.00 per month, which must be paid into a blocked account at a German bank, covering the entire duration of your stay before entering the country. We are happy to advise you.

We offer rooms at a reasonable price close to the STUDIENKOLLEG or the University in apartments with three to four flat mates.

Yes, as a student in Germany you need to have a mandatory health insurance. We also offer support with this topic.

The visa you will hold entitles you to do a part time job. But we advise you to use your time solely on studying as the workload is high and doing a job might reduce your chances to be successful.

Common acronyms and abbreviations

There are some abbreviation and acronyms you will come across when reading about Studienkollegs and university education in Germany. Here are the most commonly used:

Feststellungsprüfung, it is the finat exam at the Studienkolleg and assesses whether your abilitys and common knowledge entitle you to study at a German university. After passing the exam you will receive a certificate that will allow you to apply to any university in Germany in you chose field.
