Magdeburg - City of architecture, art, and nature
Magdeburg offers something for everyone: for lovers of the fine arts, for architecture enthusiasts, and also for those who enjoy beautiful views and nature. Here you will find city views of Magdeburg.
Architecture
Magdeburg is a vibrant blend of historic and modern architecture. Having been largely destroyed twice in wars and belonging to three different states within a span of just 50 years, the city has had to repeatedly reinvent and rebuild itself.

History
Magdeburg has a long and varied history. It was a focal point of the Thirty Years’ War, a center for technology and engineering, and the birthplace of many influential figures:
- Otto von Guericke, a prominent politician and scientist who made pioneering discoveries in vacuum technology and electricity.
- Georg Philipp Telemann, one of Germany’s most celebrated composers.
- Karl Lebrecht Immermann, the author of a famous work on the “Lying Baron” Munchausen.
Yet, you will also find remnants of the buildings that once defined the city. They serve as a poignant, melancholic reminder that even structures built of stone can be fleeting.
1. The Roland, medieval symbol of liberty, at Alter Markt; 2. Memorial for Phillip Telemann, at Allee-Center, 3. Memorial for Otto von Guericke, in front of the new town hall; 4.
